Ghanaian singer, Amaarae and South Africa’s Tyla are the other African artists billed for the event, according to the recently released digital flier by the organisers.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, commonly known as Coachella is a yearly festival in California, USA, with over 125,000 thousand people in attendance.

It is dubbed the world’s biggest music and arts festival.

• Seun Kuti was the first Nigerian artist to perform at the global music festival in 2012, followed by Mr. Eazi and Burna Boy in 2019, Ckay in 2022, and Tems earlier this year.

South African singer Tyla announced on Thursday that she is postponing and canceling her international tour dates due to an injury.

Her UK & Europe tour, which included locations such as Oslo, Stockholm, Berlin and London, has been rescheduled. The singer’s North America tour, which included her debut Coachella performance, has been cancelled.

She uploaded a statement onto her Instagram addressed to her Tygers, the name she gives her fans, giving details about her injury.

“All of you know that this moment you have all helped me transform into a reality, has been a life-long dream. I am so grateful and humbled by this past year and the way it’s changed my life,” the Water hitmaker wrote.

“For the past year, I’ve been silently suffering with an injury that has tragically worsened. I’ve seen doctors and specialists with high hopes, but the pain has only become more agonising, as has the severity of the situation,” she said.

She wanted to deal with the injury privately but felt she needed to share it with her followers. She added:

I am heartbroken to have to say this, but as of right now, I won’t be able to proceed with the tour.
“In consulting with medical professionals, it’s become increasingly clear that continuing any festival or tour dates would jeopardise my long-term health and safety,” she added.

She expressed her frustration for the injury halting her plans at a pivotal time in her career.

“Please know that my team and I are working diligently on a spectacular show for you as soon as I am recovered and ready to return safely onstage this summer,” she reassured fans.

She shared that North American tour ticket holders will be automatically refunded, and other territories will be contacted by their ticket provider regarding options.

Earlier this year, Tyla won the inaugural Best African Performance at the Grammys for her single Water, which also peaked at number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has announced the lineup for the 2024 edition, and like previous editions, the roster shows how the event is on the pulse of the viral success achieved by African acts.

Nigeria’s Tems and DJ Spinall, South Africa’s Tyla, and the U.K.’s Skepta have all appeared on the poster for this year. They are billed to perform alongside international superstars like Doja Cat, Ice Spice, and J Balvin.

Tems, who, undoubtedly, has been a global sensation in the firmament of R&B, soul, and afrobeats in recent years, would be looking to make her sophomore appearance at Coachella after performing alongside Burna Boy, Asake, and Black Sherif last year.

Tyla, on the other hand, has been causing tremors across the world—radio airplay, TikTok, global charts, international interviews – with her refreshing distillation of Amapiano, RnB, Afrobeats, and pop, and her hit single “Water”. With her self-titled album “Tyla” barely months away from dropping, the upcoming performance by the South African star is another career moment worth expecting.

This year’s festival will occur at The Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, across two weekends – April 12–14 and April 19 -21.

Elsewhere on US festival news, Tyla is also set to perform at the Governors Ball in New York City June 7–9.
