Road To Hastafari was a project the artiste had been hinting at releasing about 5 years ago. On the song, Untitled, he shares his experience with the rapper, Dex Kwasi concerning his hopeful release date: “I had n****** like Dex Kwasi telling me ain’t nobody anticipating music from an unknown rapper.”

5 years, 4 EPs and it’s definitely worth the wait.

Road To Hastafari is a 12 track album with features from Nigeria’s A-Q, PsychoYP and Ghana’s M.anifest, Black Sherif and Titi Owusu. The project spans across across different genres including HipHop and has a definite pop feel to it all. The production mostly from BRYAN THE MENSAH himself and Okaiwav is an obvious collaborative effort to make sure that the listener has a pleasant experience, track after track.

A fan favourite, Until I see You is an emotional love song about how differences in schedules can affect your relationship. The star of the song, TiTi Owusu is an incredibly talented singer many keep likening to Beyonce solely based on the richness of her voice. She outshone the others and stands out on the project as one of the best features. Not to say the other features did not talk the talk. Black Sherif served a smooth verse on Life is A Movie. PsychoYP went in hard on Giraffe and M.anifest was the perfect fit for Nsem.

A definite given from listening to Road To Hastafari is that after every listen, you’d have a new fave. It could be the very first song, Feeli Feeli where Bryan does not hold back at all and just goes in hard, throwing jabs at anyone who made his rise as an upcoming artiste a little bit rougher or it could be Through The Flame that takes you right to church with the urban gospel feel and preacher’s sample.

‘Body’ drops under the umbrella of Southern Africa’s fast-evolving Amapiano sound and is flush with Essilfie’s sweet vocals on a well-arranged DredW production.

The result is a thumping tune sure to put your body through its paces right in time for the festivities ahead.

As DredW stated earlier in the year, his desire to step outside his comfort zone and try new sounds is strong, and with yet another release from him now at our disposal, it is good to know this intention has not changed. Although this release also leans toward Amapiano, there’s no telling what other genres the mystery collaboration has in store for fans.

A recent tweet post on her official Twitter handle disclosed that she’s been at the studio in preparation for a new project. She’s also hyped and can’t wait to give ‘gingams’ an epic piece.

‘Darling it’s almost that time …ouuu I must say I’m nervous but very excited. Been creating some new music and I can’t wait but U heard all the collaborations I’ve done since my last drop…?? A thread.’ the tweet reads.

The anticipated track is set to be Efya’s first single tune of 2021 though she has been in numerous collaborations. She was featured on Haija4Reall’s Gimme Dat, Samini’s Picture’, Vero’s Moda’ Mama (Moda’) just to name a few.

The video is for the song, Meka Ho Bi Woka Ho Bi.

In the video, Pure Akan is seen rapping in front of a Presbyterian church with a shrine close by. Two male figures in dark and white tones dance around him inside the Elmina castle as he calls on all social ethics for self-assessment and duty.

Meka Ho Bi Woka Ho Bi comes with a double-sided play; The images are as contrasting as the song’s message. “I have been looking afar, but I did not know that I was sitting on it, I’m part of it. Sometimes it is me, sometimes it is you” Akan laments in the lyrics.

The visual rides on an acoustic undertone that runs as a template to deliver the message of community and accountability in an African setting.

A truly dense mixtape that makes his third studio album ‘’WAVs’’ feel lightweight, E.L’s bite force is still strong and much closer to his wheelhouse of hardcore Hip-Hop. There’s a total of 14 songs amounting to 54 minutes, aside from a roster full of rap-hungry megalomaniacs which include the likes of Joey B, Tulenkey, Kev the Topic, A-Clipse and Lyrical Joe to name a few.

Upon play, the first four songs are on the A-side – ‘Time’ through to ‘This Country’ – the former being an introspective opener on E.L’s ascent, to which he teasingly cites: “Can’t believe I sh*t on you niggas six times chale” and the latter being the heir to his ‘State of the Nation Address’ off the ‘’BAR 2’’ mixtape as he retouches on his motherland’s woes, though in a cynical tone.

‘Frodo Baggins’ (feat. Nova Blaq) plants itself among the aforementioned four, rocking that super tight – ‘’Ten years into my bag, no coming short like Frodo Baggins” line, as the project draws in on its run of star-studded features: ‘I Feel Like I’m the Sh*t’ (feat. Kev the Topic), ‘Kaafe Mafe’ (feat. Phyl4lyph & A-Clipse), ‘Dracula’ (feat. Lyrical Joe), the pre-released ‘Sudwe’ (feat. Joey B & Tulenkey) and ‘Rowdy’ (feat. Young Pabi & Temple), all putting rap fanatics on edge.

Towards the end, however, the intensity gets a bit soft; ‘On God’ has the rapper toss in a couple of playful lines on the trap-like production, next to another song self-appreciative of his style – ‘Different’ (feat. Dr Laylow & Gambo). ‘The Bar Cypher’ isn’t far off from the previous two, but is the record’s chunkiest.

It has E.L hand his platform to 6 budding guest artists: EL Deezy, Kimilist, Kojo Vypa, Gingsen and Hackey, all delivering that priceless cypher experience before the record rounds up with ‘Bar Out’ (feat. Kxng Tradey) and its solo close ‘Your Turn’.

Speaking with E.L about the series and what it is all about, the rapper shared: ‘’I consider this tape my social responsibility to keep hip-hop alive. I see so much talent around me and it casts my mind back to the times when I was an upcoming artist looking for someone to believe in me. I aim to keep using my platform to project and protect. It (Bar 6) is dedicated to all artists who feel like they have something special to offer. The goal is to encourage them to keep going against all odds and to do things their way’’.

On ‘’Bar 6’’, E.L’s aggression, uncanny pen game and ear for catchy production live on, effortless in ferrying his rap legacy to where it belongs – everlasting plane.
