Wizkid closed the 2024 British Fashion Awards ceremony with a captivating performance of his hit song, ‘Troubled Mind.

The event, which was held at London’s most iconic venue, Royal Albert Hall, was attended by A$AP Rocky, Rihanna, Dave Chappelle, Tems and other celebrities.

Afrobeats singer, Davido, has expressed pride after he retained his record as the only artist to occupy the top 16 spots on the Spotify Nigeria Daily Top Songs Chart for two consecutive days despite new album from his colleague, Wizkid.

Wizkid’s new album, ‘Morayo’ broke several records on Spotify but songs from the album failed to occupy the top 16 spots on the Spotify Nigeria Daily Top Songs Chart for two consecutive days, a record set by Davido ‘Timeless’ last year.

Following Wizkid’s failure to break Davido’s record, a music-monitoring platform, The Data Dash wrote via X, “@davido remains the only artist to occupy the Top 16 spots on the Spotify Nigeria Daily Top Songs Chart for 2 consecutive days, with all new songs from his album ‘Timeless’.”

Reposting, Davido bragged, “Remains the only!”

Afrobeats singer, Wizkid has broken records as all the songs from his new album, ‘Morayo’ are in the top 17 positions on Apple Music.

This achievement came in less than 10 hours after the release of the album.

The album, which was released today, November 22, 2024, is a tribute to his late mother, Juliana Morayo Balogun, who died in August 2023.

‘Piece of My Heart’ a lead single from the album, climbed No. 4 on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart and No. 7 on the World Digital Song Sales chart.

Morayo also shattered Nigeria’s streaming records, with one of its singles amassing 1.57 million streams on Spotify on its opening day.

With his new album “Morayo” on the horizon, Wizkid has just dropped a fresh single, “Kese (Dance),” and it’s a full-on invitation to the dance floor. Packed with energy, this track is all about moving to the rhythm—day or night, Wizkid’s got us on our feet.

Co-produced by P2J and Dpat, ‘Piece of My Heart’ showcases the smooth vocals of both Wizkid and Brent Faiyaz. The song is filled with heartfelt lyrics like “Nothing can tear us apart, you got a piece of my heart,” sharing a message of deep love and loyalty.

Speaking in a viral video, Wizkid said he doesn’t stress himself to make hits.

The ‘Essence’ hitmaker also claimed he dislikes promoting his music or granting media interviews.

“All my biggest songs from ‘Holla At Your Boy’ to ‘Soco’, ‘Joro’, ‘Ojuelegba’, I recorded them sitting down,” he said.

“You [P2J] know how my things be for Lagos. You’ve been in my house. You know what I do. I’m chilling. You get me, no stress.

“You see promo, I hate doing that sh*t. You know press, I hate doing all that sh*t, bro. I know exactly what the people want. [Producer] P2J is the only n*gga that understands me.

‘All we have to do is turn on the mic. The amazing thing is that the world is now globalised, you don’t need anyone to lie to you.”

Famous afrobeat musician, Wizkid has paid his disc jockey, DJ Tunez N10 million to play singer Asake’s hit song, Fuji Vibe.

Wizkid made the payment to DJ Tunez, during his sold-out concert in London.

In a now trending video from the concert, DJ Tunez made the announcement which led to an explosion of cheers and applause from the audience.

He said, “One of the Afrobeat singers Wizkid just paid me N10 million now to play this song.”

DJ Tunez’s performance with ‘Fuji Vibe’ stands out as a major highlight of the night, as the crowd sang along.

The Nigerian superstar shared his passion for the sport and his admiration for the discipline required to succeed in football.

Wizkid, who played on his school’s football team, acknowledged that his impatience and dislike for early morning training sessions led him to focus on music instead.

“If I wasn’t doing music, I would be playing football, I play football real good, I used to be in my school team”, he said.

He, however, said that his respect for the sport and its demands remains strong.

Wizkid also shared his unconventional approach to security, opting not to travel with bodyguards and instead relying on his tight-knit management team, whom he considers family.

Afrobeats singer, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, AKA Wizkid, has declared himself the first young Nigerian artist to hit stardom.

He acknowledged his parents for giving him the freedom to chase his dreams.

He, however, stated that even his parents were initially pessimistic about his chances of making it in the music industry.

“I was the first young artist to ever blow up on the [Nigerian music] scene. So my parents didn’t even believe that there was a chance in that,” he said per Uplift X.

“Every parent, of course, when they see their kid growing up and you’re making a big career decision that they’re not sure about, especially coming from Africa; living in a home where your mom is a Christian and your dad is a Muslim, and they never had an argument about the religion or what the kids wanted to do… My dad would be like, do whatever you want. If you want to be a Muslim or Christian, you’re free, to do whatever you like.

“I love my parents so much. That’s something that has helped me become who I am today. All I understood was love was the only thing that kept them together for so long.”

Wizkid had announced that he would release a new album in memory of his late mother who passed away on August 18, 2023, in London.

The album is titled ‘Morayo’, his mother’s middle name.

Famous rapper Nicki Minaj has expressed her admiration for Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid.

Speaking during a recent stream on StationHead, the ‘Queen of rap’ said she has “much love and respect” for Wizkid.

Minaj described the ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner as “very chill and smart.”

She said, “He [Wizkid] is a very very cool chill guy. He’s really that guy, very smart. I have much love and respect for him.”

She also revealed they met while she was recording her 2018 album ‘Queen’ in a studio in Queens, New York.

Despite rumours of a Wizkid and Nicki Minaj collaboration over the years, the duo has not yet released any songs together or confirmed that they have an unreleased song together.
