These last few years the Reggae & Dancehall music scene in Ghana has primarily been dominated by dancehall music. Yes you’ll have a few dancehall artistes like Stonebwoy & Samini drop heavily reggae influenced tunes every now and then, but apart from that, it’s pretty much just been a handful of reggae artistes keeping that sound alive, and Knii Lante is definitely a name in the top 5.
With his recent release ‘1000 ways’, Knii reminds us that despite his afro-pop sounds on radio he’s still a reggae artiste to the core. Explaining his occasional drift from the reggae genre Knii says “every now and then I like to drop something for the masses.” Being the prolific song writer he is it’s no surprise that whether soul, Reggae, RnB, highlife or afro-pop once Knii jumps on it, it’s an instant classic. His recent feature with Feli Nuna is no exception.
In their new collaboration ‘YOU’, Knii flexes his melodic versatility; switching between french and english in the hook whiles smoothly dabbling in sing-a-long verses that keep this high-life song stuck in your head. Feli’s exceptional vocals compliment the production quite well. There’s no doubt Knii has a great ear for picking out young talents to collaborate with. In a recent interview with Ms Naa on YFM, he makes it known that he’s got quite a few more of such collaborations on the way; giving us just two names he emphasizes that we’ll be hearing a lot more from him in the coming months.
