On Saturday 22nd October Africa’s biggest music awards, the Mtv Africa Music awards took place in Johannesburg South Africa. The occasion was a day for the finest and most talented African musicians to be honored for their work and contribution to African music. To give just a brief history, the first awards show was held at the Velodrome, Abuja in Nigeria on 22 November 2008 and was broadcast around the world on November 29 in conjunction with Airtel and local television channels in Africa. After a 3-year hiatus, Viacom International Media Networks Africa announced that the MTV Africa Music Awards would return on 7 June 2014. The event took place at the ICC, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal on 18 July 2015, and on 23 August 2016 it was announced that the sixth edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards would take place in Johannesburg, South Africa on 22 October 2016 at the Ticketpro Dome.
This years award show saw performances from Wizkid, Patoranking, Sarkodie, Yemi Alade and many others. Unfortunately, Ghanaian artists nominated for awards R2bees, Mzvee, E.L and Stoneboy did not win in any of the categories they were nominated. Nonetheless, many deserving artist across they continent won awards from the various categories. Below is a full list of those who won awards in the 2016 MTV Mama awards.
